Our Family's Legacy of Service, Since 1902.
For over a century, the Barden family has had the privilege of serving the Ithaca community and Gratiot County. Our journey began in February 1902, when J.L. Barden moved from Pleasant Valley, Michigan and purchased the downtown furniture and undertaking business. Since then, five generations of our family have proudly served as licensed funeral directors, and seven generations have contributed to the success of both the furniture store and the funeral home. Although the furniture store closed in September 1990, our commitment to the community never wavered.
For 123 years, the Barden Funeral Home and our family have been honored to serve Ithaca and Gratiot County. This is an impressive length of time for a small family business and is equaled by few in history. This remarkable legacy would not have been possible without your unwavering trust, kindness, and support. We are deeply grateful for your patronage, the relationships we have built, and the opportunity to be part of your lives during times of both celebration and sorrow.
Therefore, it is with profoundly mixed emotions that we announce the closing of the Barden Funeral Home on June 27, 2025, at 2 p.m. After this time, we will no longer accept new funeral arrangements.
To the people of Ithaca and Gratiot County, we extend our heartfelt love and gratitude. Thank you for allowing us to serve you and for being such an important part of our family’s story.
